No Shave November Isn’t Just for the Guys: Answering Your Laser Hair Removal FAQs

Breaking news, ladies: No Shave November isn’t just for the guys anymore. We know you’ve been looking forward to “pants season” for months so you can finally stop stressing about whether you remembered to shave your legs the night before – and guess what? With laser hair removal, you can kiss your razor or wax strips goodbye while still enjoying silky smooth skin.

Our Vectus Laser hair removal treatments safely and effectively remove hair from your face, underarms, chest, back, bikini area, legs, and other parts of your body for the smooth, silky look you want (without any of the razor bumps, ingrown hairs, or irritation that you don’t). But many of our patients wonder, does it hurt? Is it safe? And how long do laser hair removal results last?

Here are your laser hair removal FAQs, answered.

How does laser hair removal work?
Laser hair removal uses technology in which a beam of light is applied to unwanted hair on various parts of the body. This light is a specific wavelength that targets melanin – the pigment in the hair that gives it color – in the hair follicle. When the light enters the follicle, it is converted to heat energy that inactivates the follicle, preventing the hair from growing again.

Does laser hair removal hurt?
Our Vectus Laser system is designed to keep you comfortable. Most of our patients describe the process as relatively painless, but this depends on your individual sensitivity. Many of our patients describe a tickling or tingling feeling in the area being treated, but if you’re especially sensitive, the sensation may feel like a rubber band snapping against your skin or a light pinching. After treatment, your skin may be a little red, but that quickly goes away on its own.

Is laser hair removal safe?
Absolutely. When performed correctly by a certified, experienced laser technician, laser hair removal is both safe and effective. As a professional laser hair removal clinic, we always take our patients’ medical histories, current health conditions, and potential for complications into account before performing any laser hair removal services.

What areas can be treated with laser hair removal?
At the Dermatology Institute & Laser Center, we work with patients to create customized treatment plans for the areas they want to become hair-free. These areas can include:
Face
Underarms
Chest
Back
Bikini area
Legs
Upper lip

Will the hair grow back after my laser hair removal treatment?
Sometimes. Laser hair removal targets and deactivates your hair follicles, stopping new hair growth. So most of our patients don’t experience new hair growth after laser hair removal. Changes in hormones, though, can lead to increased hair production. Usually, you only need a quick touchup for more permanent results. If the hair does grow back, it will likely be much finer than it was before.

How many laser hair removal treatments will I need?
The answer to this question depends on the area you want to be treated, how much hair you have, and other relevant factors, like the contrast of color between your skin and hair. Since hair grows in cycles, it’s impossible to laser away all hair at once. We typically recommend a few initial treatments to remove all of the hair from the desired area and give you the smooth skin you’ve been looking for.
