Chemical Peels in New Jersey

If you live with uneven skin texture, hyperpigmentation, acne scarring, signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles, or other skin inconsistencies, a chemical peel may offer a path forward toward the smoother, more supple and even skin you desire. This restorative skin resurfacing treatment option quite literally peels back old, damaged outer layers of skin to reveal healthier, more youthful skin beneath.

Non-invasive, safe, and suitable for all skin types, chemical peels are a popular cosmetic dermatology treatment that harnesses the body’s own natural healing processes. Increased collagen and elastin production triggered by the chemical removal of outer skin layers helps patients achieve glowing, healthy skin and a more youthful appearance.

At Dermatology Institute and Laser Center, Dr. Ros and her world-class team have performed hundreds of chemical peels to help patients realize their dreams of smoother, firmer, and more even skin. To learn more about chemical peels and how this advanced treatment option can help you achieve your cosmetic goals, contact our Clifton or Rockaway location to schedule an initial consultation with Dr. Ros!

How Chemical Peels Work

A chemical peel is a skin resurfacing treatment that involves removing one or more layers of old, damaged skin cells so that a fresh new layer of healthier, more elastic skin can develop. A chemical solution is precisely applied to the skin and then removed after a short period of time to allow for a boost in collagen production and the activation of the body’s natural healing processes.

The skin that develops after a chemical peel is softer, younger looking, and more even than the skin it is replacing. Depending on the scope of the concerns being addressed and the type of chemical peel being administered, multiple treatments may be recommended. However, even a single treatment can often rejuvenate the skin and elicit stunning results.

Dr. Ros may suggest trying chemical peel treatments on their own or in combination with other treatment options to help you reach your cosmetic goals as efficiently and effectively as possible. To learn more and receive a custom-tailored treatment plan, book an appointment today!

Types Of Chemical Peels We Offer

At Dermatology Institute and Laser Center, our experienced team offers a wide range of superficial and medium-depth chemical peels by various manufacturers. We customize treatment plans to the specific needs, schedule, and cosmetic goals of each patient and are always available to provide guidance and support at every step along the way.

While the extent and depth of peeling will vary from case to case based on a variety of different factors, some level of skin peeling almost always occurs with chemical peel treatments. To learn more about what to expect based on your particular circumstances, speak directly with Dr. Ros.

Superficial Peels

Also called light chemical peels, superficial peels are the mildest form of chemical peel. They target only the uppermost layer of skin, known as the epidermis, and are often recommended for the treatment of acne, fine wrinkles, dry skin, and more. The recovery period after a superficial peel is typically minimal and the treatment may be repeated every 2-5 weeks, as desired.

Medium-Depth Peels

Medium chemical peels, including Vitality Institute (VI) peels, remove the epidermis as well as the top layer of the skin beneath it, known as the dermis. Often recommended for the treatment of moderate lines and wrinkles, acne scars, uneven skin tone, and more, they require a slightly longer recovery period and redness may persist over a period of weeks. Multiple treatments may be recommended, depending on the circumstances.

Good Candidates For Chemical Peels

If you are in overall good health and seeking a refreshed complexion and/or the treatment of mild to moderate wrinkles, scarring, or hyperpigmentation, you may be an excellent candidate for chemical peels.

Chemical peels may not be a suitable treatment option if you:

  • Are pregnant/breastfeeding
  • Have a compromised immune system
  • Are seeking a treatment for deep wrinkles or sagging skin

Dr. Ros will gather a thorough medical history and take the time necessary to understand the treatment outcomes you are hoping for. If she feels that a chemical peel is not the right option for your situation, she will recommend another treatment plan to help you achieve your cosmetic goals.

Length Of Treatment & Recovery

The exact length of chemical peel treatment and recovery depends on a variety of factors including the type of peel applied as well as each individual patient’s response to the procedure. Generally speaking, a light chemical peel is left in place for approximately 10 minutes and the recovery period takes between 1-7 days. A medium chemical peel is left in place for closer to 20 minutes and recovery takes about 7-14 days.
