Dysport In New Jersey

If you’re dealing with facial wrinkles that make you appear worried or tired, even when you’re not, the opportunity to smooth and rejuvenate your skin may be a game-changer. Fortunately, from dermal fillers to plastic surgery procedures, there are many cosmetic solutions that can help you achieve a consistently pleasant resting face and a more youthful appearance.

Cosmetic injectables are a category of minimally invasive treatments that effectively address certain types of facial wrinkles and help patients of all ages turn back the clock. Among them is Dysport, a popular injectable used primarily to treat vertical frown lines that develop between the eyebrows (sometimes referred to as “elevens”).

At Dermatology Institute and Laser Center in Clifton or Rockaway, Dr. Adriana Ros and her exceptional team have a high level of experience and expertise in administering Dysport injections to achieve beautiful, natural-looking results. To learn more about Dysport and whether or not it may be the right treatment option for your particular health needs and cosmetic goals, contact us directly to book an appointment today!

How Dysport Works

Dysport is a cosmetic injectable that is FDA-approved for the treatment of moderate to severe glabellar lines (deep vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows). Also commonly used off-label to treat other facial wrinkles, it is classified as a neuromodulator and, like Botox, its active ingredient is a purified form of the naturally occurring neurotoxin botulinum toxin type A.

Dysport works by blocking nerve signals from the brain to targeted facial muscles underlying dynamic wrinkles (wrinkles caused by repeated muscle contractions). When these muscles relax, the skin above them becomes smoother, erasing worry lines and wrinkles as if by magic.

The smoother skin that results from Dysport injections typically lasts between 4-6 months, depending on a variety of different factors including the location of the treatment area and the severity of the wrinkles. With follow-up appointments at regular intervals, Dysport can offer a long-term solution for the elimination of worry lines, forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, and more!

Dysport Benefits

Dysport injections can have numerous benefits for patients of all ages and backgrounds. Some of these include:

  • Minimally Invasive – Injectable treatments provide a minimally invasive alternative to surgical cosmetic procedures.
  • Quick Turnaround – Dysport treatments only take approximately 10 minutes and require little to no downtime afterward.
  • Wrinkle Antidote – When moderate to severe frown lines and wrinkles are impacting your appearance, Dysport can effectively smooth and rejuvenate your skin.
  • Natural-Looking Results – Dr. Ros and her team have helped thousands of patients achieve natural-looking results with expertly administered Dysport injections.

Am I a Good Candidate for Dysport?

In general, most healthy adults over the age of 18 who are looking to address moderate to severe frown lines are good candidates for receiving Dysport injections. That being said, the dedicated team at Dermatology Institute and Laser Center will always take the time to thoroughly understand your medical history, current health status, and treatment goals before recommending Dysport as a treatment option.

Dysport may not be an appropriate treatment option for you if:

  • You are pregnant
  • You have allergies or known sensitivities to botulinum toxin
  • You have a milk allergy
  • You have specific skin disorders
  • You take specific medications (these may include blood thinners, muscle relaxers, medications that impact the muscles, such as those prescribed for Parkinson’s Disease, and more)

What To Expect From Treatment

Dysport treatment at Dermatology Institute and Laser Center is individualized for each patient and no two treatment plans are identical. Dysport injections may be administered independently or in combination with other treatment options as part of a broader strategy to eliminate unwanted wrinkles and rejuvenate the facial skin.

In general, patients can expect their Dysport treatments to involve the following:

  • An initial consultation to review medical history, understand treatment goals, and develop a comprehensive treatment plan.
  • Dysport treatments are administered on-site at our world-class clinic. The treatment area will be cleaned and prepped with topical numbing cream.
  • Dr. Ros will perform several injections to achieve optimal, natural-looking results.
  • Dysport treatments usually take between 10-20 minutes, depending on the location of the treatment area and the scope of the treatment.

Recovery and Results

Following Dysport treatment, patients can typically resume regular activities with little to no downtime required. Minimal redness, swelling, bruising, or discomfort may occur around injection sites, but such symptoms should resolve on their own within 1-2 days. Less common side effects may include a drooping eyelid, blurred vision, swallowing problems or muscle weakness, which also typically resolve on their own. Contact our office immediately if you experience any side effects that concern you after a Dysport injection. Our team is always available to respond to your questions and concerns.

Patients may notice a positive impact from Dysport injections almost immediately, but the treatment typically reaches its full effect after approximately 2-3 days. Dysport outcomes have a lifespan of around 3-5 months, but regular follow-up appointments can help to maintain optimal outcomes over the long term.

FAQ

The cost of Dysport treatment depends on the quantity of Dysport required to effectively treat your facial wrinkles. A knowledgeable Dermatology Institute and Laser Center team member will explain a breakdown of the costs involved and ensure you are comfortable moving forward before Dysport treatment is administered.

The effects of Dysport typically last anywhere from 3-5 months but can be continually maintained over the long term with regular follow-up appointments.

Long-term effects associated with Dysport injections are extremely rare. If you experience any concerning symptoms or reactions after receiving Dysport treatment, contact our office immediately.

Botox and Dysport have the same active ingredient and are very similar treatments, but the trace proteins in their formulas vary slightly. For some patients, this can make a difference in the way the body responds to each type of injection. In addition, Dysport is approved for addressing glabellar lines (though often used off-label for other purposes) while Botox is approved for addressing frown lines, forehead, wrinkles, and crow’s feet. In general, Dysport is a less expensive treatment option than Botox.
